Does the NAVIGON MobileNavigator on my iPhone need a standing Internet connection?

I am from outside the US and I plan on travelling there and I would like to use the NAVIGON MobileNavigator on my iPhone instead of renting a GPS for my rental car. However, I don't want to go online when I'm in the States, as that would be very expensive. So my question is, does that App work without accessing the internet? Thank you

Typically any GPS on a phone needs an active connection to download any necessary maps of the local area. I'm not 100% positive though.
