1. How-To connect to an NYCwireless Network using Microsoft Windows (9x,2000,XP)
1. Hardware requirements
A WiFi compliant 802.11b wireless Ethernet device installed on your laptop, or a laptop with integrated wireless capabilities.
Examples Include:
Orinoco PC Card (Silver or Gold)
Apple Airport Card
3COM AirConnect
DLinkAir PC Card
Linksys Instant Wireless Network PC Card
Intel Pro/Wireless 2011B LAN PC Card
2. Software Requirements
Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, or any other web browser.
Make sure that your web browser is not set to use a proxy server.
For Internet Explorer, this setting can be found in the Windows Contro Panel> Internet Options> Connections > LAN Settings.
Connecting to the Network:
Set your wireless network adapter's Network Name (or ESSID) to www.nycwireless.net.
Check that your network settings are configured to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP),
Launch your web browser and start surfing! *
