Does This Look Good?

A friend is going to help me build a computer and here are the parts I was thinking of. I am going to ask him as well, but I figured I should ask here as well since he has exams this week. And we all know what mama says. Mama says better safe then sorry, so I am mostly concerned with:

a) Whether everything is compatible, &
b) If I am missing any part, including: wires, cables, etc.

Here is all the stuff (I cut out some pieces that I think were unnecessary, and added links to them in case I did cut something out that was):

Ah yes, this computer will be used mostly for playing games, lots of writing, downloading movies and music, and burning them to CDs.

Looks like a sweet setup! Nice man! Oh, I have the Cooler Master Stacker: one awesome case! Silent and keeps your components nice and cool! It's nice to work inside, it's so big!

is there a reason you've gone for 2 hdds, i notice one is 10k rpm, maybe you should consider scrapping the Raptor and getting 2 Caviar of the same spec, then raid them. Will give you more space and faster avg seek times.

Personally I would instead of getting the geforce 6800 ULTRA get a geforce 6800 GT. If you go by the prices at newegg this will save you $150. Then you could easily use that money to get a skt 939 motherboard instead and a athlon 64 3500+.

I also believe the raptors are extremly overrated. I would just get anouther harddrive for cheaper and get more space. The difference in speed you would proberly not notice.

Should I replace the Raptor with another Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JD 250GB 7200 RPM 8M Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive?

And if I RAID the two will I need to purchase any cables or other things?

If you really feel the need to RAID them, you should at least buy a drive thats the same size. Read the RAID 101.
And if I RAID the two will I need to purchase any cables or other things?
No
As for the system - why the crappy monitor? You've got the super expensive gfx card so you should at least get a half way decent monitor for it.

like mgoldb2 said, get a socket 939, ur overall rig rocks, all of amd's new processors such as the dual core will be on 939 only so you will have trouble upgrading in the future, and then get the 3500 processor with it

for ~100$ more u can get a bundle here:
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=MB-BA20954

please get a mobo+cpu bundle at this site, best prices on them i can find, if u want u can get the msi or dfi boards

Raid again eh? :). Well what are ya doing with this computer? Chances are a raid setup is gonna be pointless but double your chances for data loss.

Here is an example:

you have 2 Hard drives that are 100gbs. This gives you the total of 200gbs appearing as one single drive, If just one of these drives fail you loose all your data. Now if your using your computer for everyday use or gaming then Raid 0 holds no benefits for you.

Edit:

As for the monitor you do get what you pay for. I would guess your gonna do some gaming with this system as the components that you've choosen are rather high end. I dunno why you would not want to back up your system with a monitor that's at least 19" in size and perhaps a nice Flat screen CRT for around $200-$300.

Follow up on last thread as I made some editions. Again I plan to use this for lots of typing, gaming, and burning CDs/DVDs.
Interesting that the case is the first thing on your mind... ;)

<>PROCESSOR<>
ABIT FATAL1TY AN8 Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard
1. That's not a processor
2. You can do much better than the Fatal1ty board :) (look at the MSI and DFI boards)

<>PROCESSOR<>
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Newcastle 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor
For the 3800 you should consider the Venice or at least Winchester :)

GIGABYTE Geforce 6800Ultra 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI-Express x16 Video Card
Your money but you're paying an extra $200 for about 75/50MHz that you can OC yourself :)

2x Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JD 250GB 7200 RPM 8M Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive
You might want to consider the DiamondMax10s with 16MB cache (see the HDD101)

NEC Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 4X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner
Solid drive, dont forget to update to the latest firmware

CTX VL701B Black 17" CRT Monitor 0.27mm Dot Pitch D-Sub
0.27 is really crummy for a CRT ... shoot for 0.25 or lower (hell I have a 0.25 here from 1997)

Logitech Premium Optical Wheel Mouse 930995-1403 Black 3 Buttons 1x Wheel USB + PS/2 Optical Mouse
Haha logitech and their names ... you might conider a different mouse if you're a mousey type of person (nothing wrong with that one tho)

why did you make another thread, putting it at the ned ofyour other one would of been fine
