was at local store today, small midwest town. they had the following custom build .INTEL CORE 2 QUAD 2.4Ghz 1066 8 MB LGA 775 EM64T -EVGA N FORCE 790I ULTRA (3PCIX) SLI SERIES MOBO - SUPER TALENT DDR3-1066 2 GB UPG. TO 8 GB MEMORY - 1 TB WD HARD DRIVE - XFX GeFORCE 8800 GT ALPHA DOG XFX ( 2 ) SLI 512 MB - Tt - BIG WATER COOLING SYSTEM - SUNBEAM MODULAR 680 WATT POWER SUPPLY - WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM - SAMSUNG DVD BURNER - HAS LARGE ALLOY CABINET (cooler master? ) very nice & over built . $1695 . I watched a game played on it , I was impressed. What I went to look for was a build for I - Tunes/ Media server . for 2 channel sound ,somthing with digtal out to hook to my audio system. My old system was good till I went to I tunes ,now runs so slow . Also looking at Costco on line at a unit for $899 with a INTEL i5 . so what do you all think. I am much more an audiophile than a computer person. but man that game sure looked nice.. THANKS ...

Here's my honest opinion and please do not take this the wrong way. If you pay 1695 for those items listed in caps, i will assassinate you. For 1695, you can build a very dominating computer vs that old crap listed. Now that I got that out my system, if you plan on buying a computer, what is your main usage?

main use is for music storage ,as part of my audio system , i tunes is what needs to run on it. It will be hooked up to a theater system in living room . Playing games might also be nice. thanks for the input as I thought it was maybe over priced...also need good wireless keyboard & mouse looking at a logitech 2.4 ghz .I need one that can work @15' + range. I tunes seems to really slow down most all systems (except maybe Mac) thanks man!

So you're using it for a home entertainment PC? You can build one of those for ~$350. It'll take a bit more to be able to play games fairly well, but certainly not $1700.

The one you posted is way, way too overpriced. You could build a faster system with half the money.

How much do you want to spend? Because for $1700 you could build a really killer machine that will be "fast" for several years, but if you're on a tight budget or you won't need all that power just yet, it it's really not necessary.

I bet you could pay geek squad to build you something better for that kind of money, not that you want geek squad anywhere near your computers...

My guess is that the local store built it a few years ago, never sold it, and hasn't lowered the price.

dam... that is the price you would pay for a decent i7-i5 build!

dont get me wrong the lga775 platform is still very good, you just got taken advantage of

+1 Honestly, I probably know as much, most likely more than the average geek quad guy/gal. And I am not bragging, and I am serious. Most of the regulars here know more about PCs than the squad....

For 1,695 - you could have a PRIMO Core i7 system with a super fast video card and top tier components all around. RUN AWAY!!!

Thanks all, I was suspect , that's why I ask . Found some good links & info at this site. Found I need to build a stand alone audio computer without I tunes
good health all

As far as iTunes goes, why is it so important for you to have? There are many media players that are just as nice or nicer in some respects, without the crippling effects on your system. I for one use MediaMonkey, and find it to be a significantly better program (At least for my needs). If you have a specific need for iTunes that can't be met by any other program, then you've obviously got no choice, but look around, because there are plenty of alternatives.

well i'm buying my computer system about Australian Dollars $1800~$1900 includes: I7 920 @ 2.66ghz, ati 5850, 6gig, CM haf 32 case, 900 watt psu mobo: p67, 24" monitor.
So yea pretty much overpriced for you. and As that almost happened to me, almost bought a dual core for $1900 few days ago. Till i was aware of that >.<
