Does thumb drive transfer data to hard drive

When I plug a thumb drive into the USB port and look at the data does anything on there get added to the hard drive or is that data permanently deleted after I withdraw the thumb drive?
 
Yeah it does leave a trace

Sorry Ill explain further... It will leave a trace but nothing really useful... in the RAM..

as far as just plugging the drive in... not doing anything and removing it... im not completely sure.. maybe john would know

Edit: If you want to get rid of any trace it was ever plugged in, let me know and ill give u instructions

Viewing as said does not delete it. Its still there.
Nothing gets added to other drive unless you do it.
If ya want to copy and paste, sync etc it will work.
Its like a hd on the thumb drive. same thing. copy, sync or and delete.

Something else comes to mind now.
When plugging in something like a microdrive you should
goto the bottom of the system tray right hand side in bottom and see something that
says safely remove or eject. Choose your usb device (microdrive)
and shut it off then unplug.
Its just a thought.

What I mean is that I just use the computer as a viewer to see what is on the thumb drive. I place the thumb drive in the USB port, click on the thumb drive in Windows Explorer, read the data (PDFs,etc.), and then safely remove the thumb drive. Does anything I read from the thumb drive stay on the computer I used to view the contents of the thumb drive?
 
After you turn it off, there should be no residual information in the RAM or on the HDD, at least nothing recoverable. I'd say you have nothing to worry about with regards to others recovering information off your USB based on what would be left on the computer. I agree with mtb211 though, wait for someone like john or another experienced user to answer your question.
 
temp files can sometimes be troublesome when dealing with security. The pagefile belongs to that category.
 
If I'm not mistaken whatever you open will appear in "Recent Documents" but once the drive is removed nobody will be able to open them. IF you want to clear the recent documents, just run CCleaner.

Simple answer is No!!!
Leaves no traces of file on your PC to read.....
