Does video editing require GPU power?

As mentioned before, depends on what type of video editing, you can say animations are still video editing. They need serious graphical grunt. :D

Animations and videos are two different things there. Animations place demands on graphics since that's what they are. Video on the drive or from an external input places the load on the cpu for processing. When you go to capture a video or burn a vcd or dvd you will find this out fast when the system is then bogged down due to the demand on cpu time.

sry guys i think ur assuming this from what i have in my SIG. no sorry this is not ture. I'm planing on building a *NEW* complete new computer. the sig i have is my computer i use for gaming (with 2 gigs of ram in it now). but im guessing i dnt need much gpu power for video editing.

Oh in that case, the short answer would be no. If you are building a new system with a more powerful core 2 Duo processor, then I suggest you transplant your current graphics card into the new system and use a budget card for the one in your sig, the E6400 should be more than enough.

With a single core AMD64 3500+, 2gb of Kingston Value Ram, and the MSI Radeon X1300 Pro 256mb video card I never seem to have "any" problems capturing videos and editing them. While the cpu is single core and the card is far from the best for graphics it still works. Your current sig shows a slight boost in memory to 2gb would do quite alright there. The drawback iseen here is more with the incompatibility problems seen on the Vista installation not XP.
