Finished putting my build together! First time I tried to start, got nada. Looked around a bit. I noticed that one of my two 6 pin power cables I stuck in my GPU was backwards compared to the other... the label of "PCI-E" was at the psu for one and at the GPU for the other. So i dissconected the one I thought was backwards(PCI-E label at PSU), and decided to try turning on with just one power cable into the gpu... and BAM, turns right on! Now installing windows!

I have no idea if I need two 6 pins in the back of my gpu... but there is two 6 pin spots (why would there be two if I needed one?) , but idc atm! I don't even know if mobo is reading ram/cpu correctly and again, idc atm!

Thanks everyone for the help! I love this forum!

...what graphics card is that? And for that matter, what are the rest of your specs?

It sounds like your PSU ain't powerful enough, your GPU may work fine for now since it's not under any intensive load but as soon as you start gaming, you'll probably start experiencing issues. What PSU do you have?

I have an MSI 4870 GPU and an Antec 650w psu.

Q6600
4gb G.Skill 1066
Gigabyte ud3r
Atrtic freezer cooler
250gb sata HDD
DVD-RW
Antec 900

so it doesn't matter that my cord looked backwards? my psu is crap.... man o man, I was just gona DL some graphic drivers atfer wireless installed...

Mobo is reading cpu wrong also, it says it is a 2.1xx ??? Don't know how to fix that yet either.

What do you mean by backwards. A PCIe power connector has a locking clamp on one side and the pin side is keyed so you cant put it in backwards.

I did the same thing when I put mine together...LOL:) The ends of the cables were not marked on mine so it was a guessing game.

How the hell was it possible to put the 6Pin in backwards

Modular cables...it just comes as a cable wrapped up with a 6 pin on each end. One end goes in the PSU and the other end goes to the graphics card. Most are labeled as to which end goes where, he just forgot to look:)

1 time I turned my comp on with just 1 power cable plugged into my 4870 and a message came up saying both needed to be connected or 1 cable not connected or something along those lines.
