I have a toshiba notebook nb 100
I have had a vodaphone dongle for a while now that worked ok.
When i turned on the other day it is not connecting,or finding the device.
I have reinstalled the software for this and had it checked at the shop, and they said it is working fine...
It just will not connect at all..
ANY IDEAS PLEASE.......

Are you sure that you are getting a signal wherever it is you are having problems? Did you try the notebook somewhere else? Did the shop look at the entire setup (pc + dongle) and say it's OK?

i have not taken the pc and the dongle into the shop, must be worth a try though.

The pc wont even find the dongle, says not connected......i does not matter where i take the notebook i will still have the same problem....Very strange..
I was thinking of reinstalling the op sys again,do you think that will cure it.
Ps the dongle was tested in the shop last week..

When you get a message saying "not connected", is that referring to the dongle or the Internet? Do you normally get some positive indication that the dongle is in service?

If the pc is simply saying "not connected", referring to the Internet, you don't know whether it's due to the dongle, pc, or whatever is giving you the Internet connection. It seems the dongle is not the issue if that checked out in the shop. You should have taken you pc along and hoped the assistant chipped in with some help for free! If you are only trying from home, then it could be your cable connection/router. Try somewhere completely different or borrow a laptop to try at home.

Usually you don't reinstall the OS just because something does not work. No good doing that if there is no wi-fi signal. Were the pc setup an issue it would be easier to first use System Restore to a good time. That sounds like it would be a few weeks ago. If your wireless setup is at home, check your router settings in case they been lost due to hiccup in power or ISP service.

Not connected is reffering to the dongle,i have virgin broadband and the cable & the wi fi on this system work fine....
I got the dongle to use whe i am not at home...as i said it was working fine at my home and elsewhere......i will take the pc to the vodaphone shop tomorrow..and hope a assistant will help.....Thankyou for your help....NANOBYTE....

OK, now I'm clear. You could check in Device Manager to see if the dongle is there. I don't know enough about the dongle to give specific advice on the drivers and software. It sounds like you already re-installed them. Perhaps uninstalling first will do the trick. System restore may rectify the problem but it's quite a drastic step. Any system changes since the chosen point will be lost.

Unless someone in the forum has specific knowledge, taking it in may get the problem fixed quickest.

thankyou nanobyte

One thought more. If you see an exclamation right click and try updating again. On the otherhand if that does not work i would try restore.
Start, programs, accessories, system tools and system restore.
Try restoring to a earlier date you know it was working. Worse case is that won't work either.

Im guessing you know and plugged in something else to test the usb port.
What about another usb port.
