We have a 1998 Gateway that we're trying to revive. It currently has 160MB of SDRAM. I'm pretty sure that at least one stick of that memory runs at PC100. A recent search suggested that the proper memory for the computer was PC66. My question is what speed is the fastest that our pc will be able to handle?

Dont know what model gateway but if it says PC66, then putting in PC100 or PC133 it will just run at PC66 speed anyway, thats 66mhz.
 
Do you happen to know the chipset? If you do a quick check will tell you the fastest supported RAM speed. Based on the age I would expect it to be PC100 but you could have one of the older models that were exiting the market.
 
Check the GATEWAY web site for the motherboards full specs. You can usually find the make and model on the motherboard. (Usually between the PCI slots)..
