Wouldn't it be cool if there were PCI-E graphics cards out there like the 7900GS for example in SLI, 1 7900GS normal card, GPU and memory all the stuff, But then the other card has the 7900GS GPU on it and nothing else, there for reducing cost to run SLI. I thought it might work, I'm sure some of you will say it will not (if not most) But hay, it was just a thought that I wanted to share....
 
You know what it means to make sense, right? I'm really confused because you basically just said "I wish there was a regular 7900gs in sli with another 7900gs, except it only has a GPU" That makes just about no sense. I'm pretty sure you can't have a card with just a GPU on it and hope it will work...
 
Ugg... OK, let me try again here. OK, you have one 7900GS normal with everything on it, BUT you have another PCI-E slot open for SLI mode. So if you had one normal 7900GS and then another card with just the 7900GS GPU then SLI can harness the power of both GPU's, but lower cost than buying 2 fully loaded Graphics cards.
 
In SLI you have 2 cards right? I thought that only 1 card's memory is use and the other one's isnt.

Both GPU's Are utilized................................. only 256MB of the 512 total are used

Have 1 card normal...................................... Other card just GPU

Normal card $180....................................... GPU only card $100

................................... =lower cost for SLI
 
ADE, you are constantly making threads starting with "wouldn't it be cool" or "just imagine if" or "if only that happened, wouldn't that be great". I closed a thread similar to this a few days ago, and the reason is this.

Whenever you start one of these threads, people's response is always "huh?" or "you gotta lay off the sugar". This should tell you that when you have to work so hard at creating a discussion out of thin air, the topic for discussion isn't up to the job.

Try to reign in your hyperactive imagination and start taking part in constructive discussion about things that actually exist.
 
ADE, after reading this post i feel like hanging myself for how stpuid people can be, wuht makes a GPU is its memory and cck frequincies and shit, u cant just take it off then its just a card that does nothing except look like u have 2

7900GS with with the memory and the gpu and all that junk +

7900GS with just a gpu

both are put into SLI to have an SLI setup and the 7900GS uses the memory from the other 7900GS....


Its an awfully stupid idea,because than the first 7900GS needs to be loaded with double the memory...which jakcs up the price to therfore make it irrelevant because the price will be the same your way,or the way it is now...and i'd prefer the way it is now.Plus the fact it probably wont work because then you have to redo the way SLI works and new motherboards would have to be released for the 2nd 7900GS to utilize the memory from the first...therefore jacking up the price more.


PS:Your threads are always like this...no sense in em at all,please stop.
 
well you see some of the idea. 256MB is really all you need, Just a simple 2nd GPU for better processing power.
 
didn't you see why it would actually be a more costly alternative?And with DX10 games coming out...256mb is gunna be the minimum you'd need.
 
Good point. Well, it doesn't just have to pertain to just that one card. But I guess I should just let it go. Had a though I wanted to share, I did, I'm satisfied.
