Doom 3

How can my NVIDIA FX 5500 256mb play Doom 3 on Ultra settings at 1600*1200 with everything else turned on high. I don't get phenomenal framerates, but still. My other specs are at the bottom of the screen.

do you want to know how you can make it run on these settings?

or.....

are you completely shocked and amazed at the fact that your current rig can run it?

im sorta confused as to what your question is  or if there is a question

Get another 512MB of RAM. I mean, Doom 3? That's really demanding on your hardware when you're playing towards maximum. Look at my specs. I got 1 gig so I could multi-task fast in Windows. That extra 512MB will boost framerates a little more.

yes actully it can

Yes, Actully my current PC can play Doom 3 at ULTRA with everything turned up to the highest, and with Fraps I found out that I get about 30-45 FPS. Usually, when I first boot it up, I get lag after I first try to move or shoot, but if I let it sit for a moment or two, It smooths out and I can play it with very little lag. And sorry for the misunderstanding, my question was how is it possible with my current system, not how can I make it happen.

I dont doubt it. AMD has some good stuff. At 2GHZ on an intel I would say youd have problems.

Set your display options all the way down, in game as well as in the system properties dialog (i.e. shadowing).

people judge video cards extremely harsh nowadays.....my eVGA GeForce 5200 Ultra (which everyone says is crap) runs Counter Strike Source at 1600x1200 with all of the settings maxed out....so your GeForce 5500 runs it......no surprise?.......why does everyone think that you have to have a GeForce 6 series card to play todays games? im not saying my card is the best or anything but what the shit?

why does everyone think that you have to have a GeForce 6 series card to play today’s games?

Everyone does? :-) I doubt that ;-). Anyhow I do believe that for a smooth running game for games such as doom 3 you do need a Geforce 6 series and higher or ATi equivalent to play the game on the highest possible settings.

I do own a geforce 6800gt and on second to highest possible settings it's not as smooth as it could be ;-).

Noone said that, but this guy claim his 5500 gives him 30-45fps in Doom3 at 1600x1200 details on high, in another thread he even said he use x16 AF.

Sorry but it's not possible, a highly exaggerated #.

hey idiot

Yo tweaker, bug off. I never said It should happen, quite frankly I know just as well as you that it shouldn't happen, but it does. Don't believe me if you don't want too, I'll just be sitting at my computer playing the best looking game of all time on the best possible settings.

And...

AND...Why can't anyone accept now adays that somethings happen without explanation. I know I shouldn't be able to play it on ULTRA with my specs, hell, with HIGH I would be kinda lucky. But I am not complaining :)

O and

Oh and, just so you know, when I scan my hardware to find the preferable settings, It says High 1024*768 with all advanced settings turned up to max.
