Doom 4/Current FPS System Req...

I don't game much, but I'm eagerly awaiting Doom 4...I'm holding off on upgrading components until they release system requirements.

As I don't do much modern gaming, I am really not sure what the best FPS games have for system requirements...and further...I don't know what to expect for Doom 4.

Skepticism aside, Doom 4 is anticipated as being visually stunning, top of the line graphics.

Can you guys give me an idea of MINIMUM AND RECOMMENDED system requirements of and AMD system?

Thanks!!!

There's not really a good way to predict this but I'd guess to run it on highish you'd want a FX 6300 and a 7870 at least.

I should have also specified...

Quad athlon? Quad phenom?

4gb ram? 8gb ram?

Or do you think the 6300 will be min cpu? That is the cpu I've been considering if I went with AM3+ board.

That won't be the minimum but I wouldn't go much lower than a Phenom X4 to play it well. Might be able to run it on an older Athlon X2 or higher. It's pretty hard to predict and I don't know a whole lot about the game. I'm also at school so everything relating to games is blocked so I can't really look it up. Your current system would probably be able to run it on lowish settings but I really don't know. If you're upgrading I'd advise getting a 8320 and a 7870 (or 7950 if you can swing for it)

Yeah thats a little out of my budget. I will be able to upgrade a bit, but I doubt I can afford to play at high/max settings. I know it sounds bad to say on a forum where everyone tries to max out all games, but in my situation, I'd just like to play the game, because it will probably be the only game I buy for the next year or more.

That's totally fine. A lot of us here are really in to the subject and spend insane amounts of money for a few extra frames and small graphics enhancements. I'm myself one of them. I use to play TF2 on low and 25fps and it didn't bother me too much but on my new computer I get twitchy if I have to run anything other than max. It's an expensive disease that infects us all here. :D

But I get you. If that's all you're wanting to play and not too concerned then I'd just toss in a Phenom II 965 or so and maybe a beefier graphics card and you should be fine.

And upgrade that PSU pronto to a CX 500 or similar quality unit.

Yeah I hear ya on the PSU...its on of those things that I know its working, so I am hesitant to get a newer/better/more efficient one. And without needing a new board, I can see that Phenom being a good upgrade under $100 if I get it on ebay.

That's exactly the mindset you don't want. You're not going to know it's going until it's gone. However you don't have a super intensive system right now. When you upgrade you NEED a new PSU.

Yeah it'd sure suck if you're PSU shat the bed and decided to fry your fancy new processor and video card for fun.

Point taken guys lol I'll upgrade that first. Where is the cheapest cx500 or cx600? I only know newegg for parts ordering in the US.

Sweet thanks...and before we get way off topic...antec is a decent brand psu? coolermaster?

Thats my last psu question here!

Not hugely off topic really since it's basically just answering your questions. Antec and Corsair are generally considered the best 2. Cooler Master is alright depending on the product line but they're not the best.

Price has little to do with it.

You need a PSU with specifications (imo) similar to the following:

* 32A on the 12V rail for your intended hardware
* Active PFC
* 120mm fan or better with ball bearings
* Over voltage and under voltage protection
* Efficiency of bronze or better
* MTFB rated at 50oC
* Japanese capacitors
* Warranty of 3 years plus

and so on. I don't like Antec and certainly not coolermaster, but there are a couple of descent ones around. I think you'd be safe getting any corsair with 32A on the 12V rail or more.
