Downgrading my operating system

A few weeks ago I bought a lenovo v200 computer and it is customized to have 2.0 g duo core centrino, 2 g memory, 160 g hard drive, windows vista ultimate. Lenovo has a "Rescue and Recovery" technology, which makes a hidden partition of 20 g on the hard drive. When the user needs to recover the system, files are loaded from this hidden partition rather than a windows vista disk.

I do not need the fancy features of vista and decided to delete it and install windows xp professional instead. But whenever I boot from the xp CD and choose to install, it will say that it cannot detect my hard drive. I believe the Rescue and Recovery technology must have done something to the hard drive.

So I wonder if anyone knows how to install xp on my computer? You may be able to help me if you are familiar with thinkpads. A lot of things on my computer are the same as a thinkpad.

If your XP is pre-SP2 then it may be that it isn't picking up what is likely to be a S-ATA hard drive, you need to have the drivers for the drive to make it work.

it needs sata drivers :D?

you'll need to reinstall because setup will be disabled if it detects an os older than the current one.

If it's pre-SP2 you need to install drivers for the HDD as S-ATA was in it's infancy in the early days of XP.

Even SP2 doesn't support all SATA chipsets, you may have to load it from floppies during the installer, hit F6 to specify third party controllers, and yes it has to be from a floppy because MS is retarded.

you can trick it to load from a usb thumb.

how so? I have always seen it search A: drive and nothing else. You can slipstream the drivers into an windows CD i Know that, but I never saw the usb thumb drive trick.

You got any links?

you can also set your ide to compatability in the bios and slipstream the driver in after. F1 while booting, devices, ide, compatability - ibelieve thats right. then windows will see your HD, Ubuntu of course would not have this problem, or any other linux distro...
