Download accelerators?

Do those “download accelerators” such as Get Right do anything? From what I understand they break up the file into multiple sections and download each section at the same time. Does that actually help download a file faster?
 
why not try it and let us know

programs like that were a lot more important back in the dialup days when a download could be interrupted by a phone call

there's really no point in running additional software with broadband speeds
 
Yes, it does help to dl faster from my experience.

Currently I'm using FlashGot (ff addon) + FlashGet.
 
oh yes it does. i was using DAP8 but then i moved to IDM (internet download manager) extreme speeds..lol
