Download Limit

Hey guys,
At my Univeristy they have a Download Limit of 5 gb, which allows me to download a few stuff off of the internet. I would like to know how they are able to determine when I have exceeded that limit and if there is a way to bypass this system. Thanks for your time. In case you need the info:
Platform: Windows XP
Internet: Cable

bandwidth usage, and your using there network and server so they prolly have a proxy server set up watching everything you do, anyway still if we did know how to get around it Rules r Rules sorry.
