I got a DVD+R disk from a mate which plays on a DVD player ok but my cd/dvd rom drive doesn't recognise it.Is there anyway to check which media types the drive can read.
Thanks

what bran/type is the drive? you'll need to update the firmware to the newest one, then everything should work fine.

Thanks for the help, Its a Matshita drive (at work at present so I'm guessing here but I think its something like Matshita 8056) I'll download the Nero info tool and run it.

Some drives just can't read some formats. Very old drives(say older/cheaper audio CD players) can't play CD-RW's(or some can't even play R's) My old laptop couldn't read DVD+R but DVD-R was fine. So yeah, as some people said the firmware could help out...

DVD+R is suppose to have more features on them, I think to make them faster, perhaps even burn better. However, I have yet to find a real advantage over DVD-R's as DVD+R's are less compatable in drives... Many DVD video players won't read DVD+R's

agreed, i bought 50 +Rs and then found out not alot of dvd readers read them however the PS2 will :) so i watch my DVDs on my playstation

Managed to check the drive its a SR-8176 and the Nero infotool tells me it doesn't support DVD+R. Are you suggesting that this can be fixed with new firmware?
