greetings,
...i have a dell optiplex 210L to which i have a 160gbhd and 1gb+ of ram. i have formatted the hd as fat32 and have installed win me (will partition later) to play some select games.

....in "my computer", i can see the "a" drive and "c" drive but, do not see any drive designations for the dvd drive and the dvd/cd-rw drives also installed.

...when the computer boots up, i can see the dvd drive lights "light up", but as far as anything else with these drives, craploa!

...obviously, i need these drives to install the necessary drivers to make win me work. i will be partitioning the hd to install xp on it once i get this problem solved.

...any simple way i can get these dvd drives installed so that i can continue loading the drivers as mentioned above?...the simpler, the better!....thanks again for your help!

I had that same thing happen to me. I think my problem was due to a faulty sony dvd rewriter. The drive stoped working and would not eject. I toke the dvd rewriter back to where I bought it and my drives are showing up now (I replaced dvd rewriter with CD Rom).

You can try this:. Then go to the hardware tab and in there click on device manager. Now find DVD/CD-Rom drives in the list and right click on it. Then click on Scan for hardware changes. It may find your drive then.

When my drives wouldn't show up I did that and the one (GOOD) drive showed up but the (FAULTY) sony drive wouldn't.

Also make sure the jumpers are set correctly.

I am no computer expert so Im not sure what the problem is but you might aswell try the things I said above.

...thanks for the reply..however, the computer is brand new and was working fine. ....i formatted it to run win me (read prior posts)...drives are fine and there is no place where the drives (dvd) are listed....yes, the jumpers are fine (read previous statement).......i am reformatting as i speak with fdisk making a 10gb partition to see if that works.....thanks anyway.

LAST UPDATE;
IT TURN OUT THAT THE CHIPSET IN THIS P.O.S. DELL IS NOT CONDUSIVE TO ANYTHING BELOW WIN 2000 SO THEREFORE, ME WILL NOT FUCTION (ALTHOUGH I GOT IT TO LOAD) ON THIS PARTICULAR CHIPSET. I WISH TO THANK EVRYONE WHOM ASSISTED ME IN FINDING THE ROOT PROBLEM. THANKS AGAIN! (ps, sorry for the caps!...grin).
