drive will not detect blank CD's

I have a qsi dvdrw sdw 042 drive in a averatec 3200 series.It will play dvd,audio cd ,and cd-rom.When trying to burn it says insert blank cd.The same goes for dvds.I am currently in Iraq and use burner to send videos home to family.Any Help?
 
take the dvd drive out, and re connect it making sure all the pins go into the holes. if it still doesnt fix it, post back
 
I tried taking out and reinstalling but no luck.I do have some off brand cd-r that can be detected.They look like the are two sided.Still wil not detect,sony,memorex and so on
