Driver compatibility for Windows 7 - GeForce 6200

I have little faith in the GeForce driver being the issue, but rather on my Dell Dimension 2350 it comes with a integrated video chipset. VGAsave shows as the adapter when you click properties in the display settings however in device manager:

GeForce Driver - Error 12(?) resources for driver unavailable etc.
Video Controller - Disabled

Therefore, I do not understand why VGAsave continues to use these resources. However, having disabled VGAsave, it disabled my computer starting up ;) so we do not want to do that yet again..

My feelings are that this Dimension Desktop just isn't up for Win7 in terms of disabling the On-Board video (As BIOS A02 only allows for Auto or On-Board you cannot "disable" the on-board) however, the purpose of this post is to see if there is simply something I am missing in my configuration.

Dont really get what your asking. You have onboard video and you installed a stand alone card and cant get the onboard disabled? Putting it to Auto should disable it if you have a stand alone card. If not(cant disable in the bios) just go to device manager find your onboard, right click on it and hit disable.
 
I do disable it, but it has no effect on what is listed under display adapter. It continues to say VGAsave. I'll post some screenshots when I get back home from putting this transmission in. It's quite frustrating, having bought this dang video card and not being able to see the Aero glass effects when my 512mb PCI vid card can deff handle it. I get like 50-60 fps on this old system for WoW, I'm sure that it can handle a fancy looking desktop -rolls eyes-
 
See if you can set the primary display adapter in the bios (should be either integrated, PCI-E, AGP or PCI)

I'm still not quite understanding what your saying, if you have it disabled why does it matter what its called.

After you installed the new card, did you install the new drivers, did you set it back to Aero? Even if its disabled look and see if its still showing up in display options set the new card as your primary display.
 
Okay, let me explain this a bit better I was rather annoyed last night. I installed a clean copy of Windows 7. I used my on-board graphics card only to start with. Then I put the new graphics card GeForce6200 in and downloaded the driver. Restarted the computer. Upon boot, it says that the GeForce cannot find enough resources to run (Yet my monitor is plugged in the GeForce card, not the Mobo integrated chipset). Upon further review of the bios, you can choose Auto or On-Board only, so I have selected Auto. Attached are various pictures of me:

1) Installing the on-board video drivers supplied by support.dell.com and rebooting only to find that Windows 7 tries to install the VGA standard driver over and over again no matter how many times I reinstall the correct Dell drivers

2) Simply disabling the VGA driver-based device in Device Manager, upon restart still showing that VGAsave is the driver for my display adapter and not the GeForce which still shows code 12 (Not enough resources available).

3) I have already once tried disabling the VGA driver in the display adapter settings which resulted in me having to do a system restore because my screen then stayed black.


It seems apparent to me based on my FPS in games, and the fact that I have my monitor plugged in that the GeForce card is working, but Windows seems confused as to which device is actually providing the resources perhaps? All google searches reveal inconclusive answers that don't work for this situation. If you can advise, please do. Thanks.

I see what your saying now. Even though you have the onboad disabled. When you load the drivers for the card it says/ Not enough resources available.

Did you unistall the drivers for the onboard after you disabled it?

Is there a place in the bios to set how much memory the onboard uses, if so set it as low as it will go, or 0 if it has it.

The Bios is very very limited. The only option it gives you for the onboard graphics is to set it to Auto or Onboard only.
 
Sorry to hear that.

I had a similar experience once, and I could only get the card to work, if it was in the machine at the time of the OS install.
 
Unfortunately, Dell stopped releasing drivers on this particular chipset back in 2005 I believe. That's the driver date of the one available for download from their support site. This is just one of the many limitations that holds my desktop back. Guess it's back to the drawing board for the new build. December will be a hell of a month. :P
