Hey guys I was hoping someone could help me out here. I just formated my computer and re-installed windows xp pro. Well when I but in my gigabyte MB drivers disk it installed several things, but would not install the usb2.0 drivers untill I got Service Pack2. So now I have sp2 and the usb2.0 install isn't an option anymore. So when I plug in my USB mass storage device I get the message that it will be running slow. I wish this was my only problem, BUT I also noticed in Device Manager There is a yellow ? mark next to "PCI Device", "USB Controller" and "Video Controller" I can get rid of these by updating the drivers by searching through the cd roms but after a reboot it goes back to the way it was. So even when I put in my Display Driver installation cd and install it, nothing is changed after a reboot. Anyone know what the heck is going on here? Thanks so much in advace. :)

First disable the Windows firewall and go to the MS update site. When there select the "custom" not "express" option and look to the left column under "Optional" for hardware and software updates. SP2 already contains usb 2.0 support.

The board manufacturer's support site will have the latest driver set for that make and model board. Also look at the bios settings to see if the plug'n'play and OS2 settings are enabled there according to the user manual for the board. PCI device would be for sound, tuner card, PCI type video card, or other types of addon devices like controller cards.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did the update process and there were no hardware updates but 10 software ones, but not mentioned usb 2.0.. I will install the updates anyway. And the millions of other updates it mentions under other catagories. I haven't been into BIOS in a long time. The option to get in there is during the bootup correct? And once I get in there I should ensure that plug'n'play and OS2 are enabled right? My mother board has intergrated sound and my video card is seperate so it's pretty weird why none of the drivers will work that just came with this pretty new computer. They worked fine about a month ago. Again, thanks a lot.
If this helps I have Gigabyte M57SLI-S4 AM2 NFORCE 570 for a montherboard.

The main support page showing the specifications and download links for bios and other updates is seen at http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/...board&ProductID=2287&ProductName=GA-M57SLI-S4

The first thing to do is read through the user manual for the board there. That is also generally found on the support site if you lose or don't have the manual with you to look over for the various sections. Usually loading the optimized defaults will get you running while some settings need manual attention like disabling onboard sound for an expansion card you add in.

The change from PCI(default) to PCI-Express is also a must when not using an onboard video chip. Those settings seen in the manual plus disabling any antivirus and other programs you installed right away can then allow the normal installation of drivers and softwares for hardwares. This is why I first mentioned disabling the Windows firewall so that installers wouldn't be hampered.

Hey I found most of the problem! I dissabled some things that were starting up in the background. No virus program or anything has been installed yet, but there were a few things and it has let me update everything but the integrtated sound card. That link you gave me isn't working, but I have the support site in my fav. maybe that one will work or the site is right down. Let me ask ya though. Does it matter what version MB it is? There is a site for my model with vs1.0 and 1.1 but I can't find that info through any programs or even in the manual! Thanks so much for your help:P

The bios updates will be seen in different version numbers. You just have to make sure the ones seen exactly match the model board you are running by model number even though different ones will often see the same chipset. For others using the same they will simply be seen on a different page while the same download.

The screen shot here will show what you should see when arriving at the correct support page with links for the various downloads. Glad to see you got that straightened out in the meantime.
