Hey guys, I recently built a new computer with the following optical drives:

Any new game I've tried to install (so far F.E.A.R and Age of the empires III) I get an error during the installation regarding .cab files. Here's the exact error I get with F.E.A.R.:

CRC error: The file C:\Program Files (x860\Sierra\FEAR\FEARA.Arch00 doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium
from which you are running the setup may be corrected, contact your software vendor

I've downloaded the latest firmware for my ASUS drive, yet I still get the same error. I get the same problems with both drives. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Neither of these drives in the newegg specifications say they support XP Professional 64-bit... does this matter?

You had the Asus? Did you install any drivers for it and if so which ones?

I'm using Windows XP 64-bit, which is not listed in it's supported operating systems. Yet there's a firmware on their website available for Windows XP 64-bit. Any ideas?

CRC errors are read errors I believe, your disc could be bad or your drive, or the OS could be shot.

Time for some good old trial and error troubleshooting.

They are, I read about that solution but they were never in PIO mode. Is there a way to define which IDE drive is the master and which is the slave? The BIOS won't let me change them, do I have to change slots in the actual computer to make this happen?

Most boards have a IDE 1 and IDE 2 with master and slave on both, When you have 2 drives on 1 IDE channel you set 1 as master and 1 as Slave by jumpers on the back of the drive.
