dropped my external hd,it now makes clicking noise. is it possible to remove the hd cover to see if any thing is stuck/jammed. I know it,s a strange question, but if I can get it to work I can transfer the data to another hd. many thanks.

Usually you'll end up damaging the parts anyway by disassembling the unit. If something was actually stuck or jammed it would have already irreparably damaged the platters.

I had this happen to me once, dropped the HDD connected to my Wii while it was on. Wasn't a big fall and it made the drive unusable (it clicked to). You might be lucky enough to actually get some data off the drive, I wouldn't touch the drive unit you can try to get the data off.

Is the hard drive still under warranty, if so. Then do not try and repair it. Try and get you stuff off the drive first, then get a replacement for it.
If it is not under warranty, still try to get the stuff off of it before you start messing with it.
