I dropped my Toshiba satellite laptop a few days ago and it caused some problems with it, There is no visible damage to it and I am actually using it now to post this thread but after I dropped it I opened it up to find a blue screen and then when I tried to restart it went through an hour or so of something it called "computer repair" or something like that and now when it is starting up it takes about 4 or 5 minutes where it used to take 20-30 seconds and when it finally starts up it gives me an icon that says NDSTray.exe unable to locate component and it says Wlanapi.dll was not found and configfree(TM) tray stopped working. Once it starts up it runs fine for a few minutes and then it feezes up for 2-3 seconds... I tried to do a system restore but it says no backups available. What is wrong with it and what should I do? thanks in advance for any help you can give.

You might have done some damage to your laptop from dropping it. I've worked on many that have been dropped( or should I say tried to work on) with no good results. Your best bet now would be to do a fresh install and see if problems persist, if they do, then damage has occured.

So it was running when you dropped it? My guess is you banged up the hard drive a little and caused some damage. There are hard drive utilities offered by the HDD manufacters. Since it won't boot, it might be easiest to pop the cover off the HD and look at the make.

It might help to do a zero-write/low-level-format. Sometimes if there's a small amount of damage it'll correct or work around it. Just a word of warning though, a low level format will clear all the data.

Yes it was running. I am really not sure what happened last night but it ran some type of repair program and today its much better. The only problems I am having now is the slow start up and the same missing files and an occasional 2-3 second delay but other than that you would never know it had been dropped.. Is there anyway I can fix these problems or should I take it to a PC repair shop? btw I am not very technical when it comes to computers..

Well the first thing that I would do in your position is to back-up my data. I would agree with the others, that your problem might be a hardware one.Maybe the hard disk is beaten up a bit as one said before. But before going to a pc repair shop, i would suggest reinstalling your os. If the problem persists ,you go to the pc repair shop.
