Dropped laptop: Possible Hardrive problem.

Hey,

So a friend of mine called me up at work today and told me that he dropped his HP laptop from a chair. He went to go turn it on, and said that there is a clicking noise coming from a laptop and won't boot up.

Now I am in the midst (over the phone) trying to get more details about it, but I thought it most likely is the hard drive. My question to you people is:

Is there a way to get a "bad" (in this case one that has been dropped) hard drive to correctly operate?

Nope, especially if its clicking. He'll need a new hard drive and hopefully nothing else got damaged.

That's what i figured.... maybe next time he'll be more careful.

Although, one more question: Could he slap an SSD in there? Do all models of laptops accept SSD? I don't know the direct model at this point, but it's less than a year old HP.

Yeah, but I would use an existing good drive to verify the laptop has no internal damage before he buys an SSD drive.
