Hey All,

Newbie here.
I've found myself in need of some help. After about 4 hours on my kid's computer tonight trying to see if I could figure things out for them, I'm in need some assistance. I started with the sticky and downloaded and ran Super Anti Spyware and Spybot SD. I also downloaded and ran AVG free edition. Umfortunately the computer locks up before these things can complete their scan. AVG detects the DropperAgent trojan in 5 files before lockup.

Here is a copy of HJT. All help humbly and gratefully appreciated.

My apologies for the delay.

Your log reveals a backdoor trojan. These can severely compromise personal information which could lead to identity theft.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or it if it contains any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC may already be compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. If you would like to attempt to remove the infections, please do the following:

Please download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to C:\SDFix

You may wish to print out these instructions or copy them to a notepad document since you will be unable to access the Internet while in Safe Mode to read from this site.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode (tap F8 just before Windows starts to load and select Safe Mode from the list).
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
    (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Please paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum in your next reply

I had about given up on getting a reply. Thanks so much for taking the time to analyze the HJT log. It's greatly appreciated. My wife uses that computer to do the family banking. We've taken your advice and changed all of our pass words from my clean laptop. I may take a stab at the removal with the SDFix, but I just don't have the skills to do the reformat and reinstallation of the OS. The infected machine is about 6 years old and I think it has lived out its economic life span. I'll probably just get a new one.
