DSL Modem/Router not working.

I have a GT704-WG DSL Modem/Router. It has a DSL input and 4 ethernet jacks on the back. I want to hook it up with my current DSL service and connect my computer and Xbox 360 to it. But the modem can not get an internet signal. The DSL light stays green, and the ethernet jack lights for the computer and Xbox 360 are green, but the internet light doesn't turn on. I don't have the setup disc for the modem, so I'm guessing that I'm missing the drivers for it? Where can I get them? A friend gave me this modem, but he doesn't have the setup disc. The modem works, as he was using it at his home and I saw that it worked. He picked up a new wireless router/modem. Please help me setup my modem. The manufacturer is Actiontec. Thanks.

I have an Actiontec as well, but just so I understand are you saying that when the computer is plugged directly into the modem, the power, DSL, internet, and ethernet lights are all green, and it's only when you plug the modem into the router when the internet light flashes?

If it's flashing even when it's not connected to the router then it seems like a modem/ISP issue. Try restarting the device, if that fails call support.

The DSL modem is the router with 4 ethernet jacks. The modem connects directly to the DSL line and the computer and Xbox connect directly to the modem. All the lights are green except for the Internet light. My old modem, which is what I'm using right now, is a DSL modem with only 1 ethernet jack. The internet works with this modem, but not the new one I'm trying to install.

Well did you configure the new modem? There are ISP-specific settings that need to be set.

No I didn't. I assumed the Verizon DSL setup software would configure everything for me, but it can't detect the modem either. I went to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers for the modem. No luck either, it can't detect the modem. I truly don't know what is wrong with this thing or is there something I'm not doing right. My only guess is that this modem was configured to only work on my friends computer and no one elses. I tried resetting the modem, but that didn't work either.

Yes it's something your not doing right. The modem needs to be set up to work with your DSL service assuming it will even work with your provider. YOU NEED TO CALL YOUR ISP AND TELL THEM YOU GOT A NEW MODEM AND YOU NEED HELP SETTING IT UP. That will solve your issue.

There is nothing we can do since we have no idea what settings you need to use, but you log into the modem in a web browser by going to 192.168.0.1 (or similar), and enter the configuration wizard. If you want install the original modem, write the settings down, and then try entering those in the new modem.

If you are connected to the modem via ethernet then your computer is not going to "detect" it, and installing the driver has no effect at all. That only applies if you are connected via USB.

I typed in 192.168.0.1 into IE 7 and I get the error page. My computer can not see or detect the modem. I have Verizon DSL in Southern California and I figured any Verizon modem would work with any DSL user. But I guess this is not the case.

It may not be that, it could be 1.1 or some other address, you need to read the manual. Two things, if you are connected to the modem via an ethernet cable then it's normal that your PC doesn't "see" the modem. And the modem very well may work with your DSL service, but you need to call them up and have them help you!
