DUAL BOOT - Macbook Pro??

Alright, so basically I've just order my 15" Macbook Pro to use at University next year. I got a Mac because I'm going into film, and need to use Final Cut. I've had my Dell PC for quite a while now, I haven't owned a Mac for about 8 years now, so my knowledge on MAC OSX isn't the greatest.

Getting to the point. I know that it is possible to dual boot Windows OS (XP) on the Macbook Pro, along with the MAX OS. My questions are, is it a dangerous procedure? Could it hurt my new laptop? What are the pros? Cons? and....What is the best way to do it?

I'm just afraid I'm gonna try to get the dual boot set up and screw up my new toy, and I realy don't want to do that. If anyone has some tips or links that could help me out, it would be really appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

bootcamp or parallels desktop.

worst you would have to reformat if it does screwed up i dont think it will kill your computer.

Thanks, I just noticed bootcamp, but it is still in it's beta form.

Ok, for those who have done it. Is there any major glitches or problems that you guys have found in either windows os or mac os after dual booting?

Oh...and after you have set up the dual boot, and say you decide you don't want/need windows anymore. Can you get rid of it? Uninstall? Or do u have to reformat the hd.

Dual booting your Mac doesn't void your warranty right...?

Sooo...nothing much to say about it? Is there another thread that has some of the information I'm asking for......I tried searching but didn't find much.

i have also been looking in to getting a mac for uni.

Parralelles is a very good "virtual machine" that runs other operating systems, such as windows, within MacOSX so you can use both at the same time. this is going to slow the system down slightly, but you can use windows and mac applications at the same time. (i beleive you can also install linux etc..)

Boot camp which is in beta stages (but yet still very good and well worth it) is the windows users solution to partitioning a hard drive to duel boot it. this is the mac program used to install both macSOX and any for of windows (XP or vista). Bootcamp will then let you choose which operating system you want to load at startup. i belive it is possible to install linux, but you would need to read up on this. The advantage of bootcamp is that windows will run on a mac exactly like it does on any other laptop and will run at full speed. The only thing to note is that a mac has only one mouse button, and so to right click you need to hold down a key and the click button.

Let me know how everything goes. im also very tempted with getting m ac for uni
