I am currently running XP on sata but I have an old ribbon HDD that I want to put Windows 7 on..My optical drive is on ribbon also..How do I need to set the jumpers and what will I look for in the bios (Phoenix) to boot from the ribbon HDD?

If its the only drive on the cable set to master. Just make sure you have IDE enabled, partition the ide drive, and then windows 7 should replace the master boot record so its on the ide drive and you can choose between XP and 7RC.

My DVD drive is on the same cable..Will that make a difference? And please explain why I should partition more..Thanks

Then you will want to set DVD as slave and HDD as master;)

Ok,sorry I was trying to edit that last post about the partition when you shot back...What was you saying about the partition? I was like just gonna format it and load 7RC on it just that way...

Oh, i was saying you can just format the drive(and partition- single partition), and set it up so you can select windows xp or windows 7, this is what im talking about:

Although when using two seperate hdd's you dont need to shrink partition/etc.

Right...OK,Thanks....I was thinking that you were talking about some other unforeseen issue that always seems to come up wheen fooling with theseolecomputers:rolleyes::D:good:

Nope, was just referring to the standard method of dual booting;) Have fun with windows 7... best os microsoft has ever made.
