Dual Boot

SO i am in the process of loading win 7 onto a partitioned HD. I want to find a good open source os that i could load of the other partition. any ideas? also how would i do it?

Linux Mint is my favorite linux distro. It's very easy to dual-boot. Once your Win 7 is set up, download a copy of LM (I suggest LM9 cause I didn't care for LM10) and burn it to a CD.

Once it boots, you'll be at the desktop. Click the "Install Linux Mint" icon. Go through all the steps. The partitioning is easy. Just say to install it alongside another OS. Then just go through and do the rest (it's not hard) and let it install. It'll install GRUB (linux bootloader) and that'll allow you to switch between the two OS'. You can change the priority of which OS you want at the top of the list at a later date.

If you need more help, post back.

sorry i overlooked the answer to my question in ur first post but my next q is what version do i download from that page. what are he differences>

I'd say go with the Gnome or KDE DVD. 32 or 64 bit is up to you, as well as choosing Gnome or KDE. They just have different interfaces. Read the release notes for each one to better determine which one you might want. You don't need to go past the LXDE release.

thanks sooo much i got the dual boot set up and it runs perfect! my only other question is is there any way to change the default os on the boot loader from linux to win 7?

Click Menu>All Applications>Administrator>Startup-Manager

Then just select Windows 7 under "Default Operating System".

I have downloaded Linuxmint 9, burned it to a CD, the CD is in a remote DVD drive connected to my laptop via USB. Your process: "Click To Install" this is where I get lost. I have tried to ust "Add Programs", have the linuxmint-9-fluxbox-cd-i386 iso" up, but will not open, or install. Do I have the correct program? Please Help

Boot to the Linux Mint 9 CD. Once it is all booted up into the LiveCD click the "Install Linux Mint" icon on the desktop.
