Dual Booting Ubuntu...Need Help

I am not sure what exactly to download. Do I download the normal desktop version? Or is their a different dual boot version?

Secondly will I need to create another partition before I try to install Ubuntu?

I have a 4 Gig thumb drive would it be possible to install everything on that and boot from the thumbdrive?
 
Hi trey.

There's no special version, the desktop download will do the job. It's generally best to install Windows (assuming it's Windows you want to dual boot with) and then install Ubuntu second.
The Ubuntu installer will detect the Windows partition during the install and will offer several options on how you would like the two systems to operate. If you're new to the whole idea I'd go with using the suggested method and not try and manual partitioning.
It's also worth mentioning that if you've already got an aftermarket boot loader or full HDD encryption etc you'll have issues without the proper research prior to install.
 
Yea I'm not sure what either of those are but I did have some problems. When burning the cd I tried 3 times. I'm not sure if the cd burner was messing up but none of the three could be verified and the boot process would not work. I also tried booting from a usb drive in windows, this also failed.

I saw the detailed instructions on Ubuntu's website but I could not even get to the drive partition part of the process.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

im having the same problem you are, i tried to burn the iso of ubuntu to a cd and it failed at the verify part and i got an error of 0x80004005

Hey there.

There is only one version for ubuntu. You have to download the desktop version. You will have to make space for Ubuntu in windows for it.
