dual booting vista and xp

i have vista on my main hd but can i use my copy of xp and install it on my slave drive and select? also can i do this in additition too the linux i am already dual booting?

I'm not sure how to do this if you want to keep your current copy of Vista intact, but what I did was start over from scratch, using a single hard drive. I first installed XP, making 3 partitions on the hard drive. Then I installed Vista onto one of the partitions. Now when I start up I can select which OS I want to load.

If you have a separate hard drive you could just install XP on that one and select to boot from that hard drive in BIOS when you want to run XP.

There may be an easier way to do this, and I'm sure someone will chime in with it if there is.

i think you can install xp on your slave drive

you have 2 possibilities

1) disconnect the first drive (master) and install xp on the slave
=> with this possibility you must modify the option "first boot device" in the bios to boot either in the first drive (vista or linux) or the second drive (xp)

2) install xp with the first device connected
=> I think it's the best solution but you can have problem on the boot of the machine. normally you should install the older system first :
xp=>vista=>linux

yes you can do this. i have two hard drives in my computer, one with vista and one with xp. install vista on the main hard drive, then remove the hard drive and install xp on your "new" hard drive. after that you change the boot settings on your bios. when ever you want to use the slave hard drive os simply press your boot sequence when you load up your computer, i.e on mine its f8.

I just did this a few weeks ago. I've had XP installed on my main hard drive and when I got Vista I wasn't quite ready to let XP go so I installed Vista on my Slave drive and know when my computer boots up it asks what OS I would like to load. It is possible to install both on the same hard drive but you have to partition it. Hope this helps. Also I never had to change anything in the bios, makes things so much easier lol.
