It does work. Ive done it before.

Do you think that Dual Channeling would see a HUGE increase in performance rather than just Flat single Channeling?
 
First off when running multiple dimms the best results are seen with all the same size. This is even more important when running in dual channle mode. While the system will still run with two 512s mixed with a pair of 1gb dimms you won't see any true gain there. You would see a gain in single channel mode when running 2gb over running a board in the dual channel mode with only a pair of 512s.

The board's manual will state whether having all dimm slots full would force the single channel mode. Most of this was seen on older Socket A and Intel models not the newer boards. Most want a board running in dual channel mode.
