i recently installed "CPUZ" to determine my cas latency and soforth, but it also told me that me ram is single channel. I have identical 512's and my mobo says to put sticks in slots 1 & 3 for dual channel. Is it something is bios?
Umm.. no, you have to physicly put them in slot 1 and 3... like it told you to... Just open up the case and rearange the ram sticks, I think the dimm slot closest to the CPU is usualy slot one.
sorry i didnt specify, i DID put them in slots 1 and 3. I just dont know if i have to change somthing in bios to enable dual channel. there are 2 green and 2 purple slots on my mobo. the book and the website say that only the green(1 & 3) support dual channel. also, it says if u fill the purple slots (2 & 4) and leave the green empty, your system will be very unstable.
Well than your ram may not be dual channel suported... I'm not sure...anybody else know what the problem is? I dont think you have to "activate" dual channel in the bios, but i'm not sure.
yes, go in your bios and activate it. Also verify your rambus and FSB are set to the same speed. Doesn't make dual channel work...but increases system performance.
Just for the record, there is no option in bios for dual channel. however, despite what the MSI book and website say, I put my mem. in slots 1 and 2, and now it is working in dual channel. weird that they wouldnt catch that at MSI.
well, assuming your laptop only has 2 mem. slots, i would think there would be an option in bios. i have four slots, so i just had to try different combonations until it worked.
if you have more than 2, try mixing them up, if not, sorry
