Dual Core any good?

Hey I've been looking att the Dual core CPU which seems REALLY nice hehe. Any how I see a 3Ghz Pentium D which I'm confused about so I just wanna see how it works.

Since the CPU has TWO CPU in ONE core do each run at 1.5Ghz when multitasking and under intesne gaming OR something it'll coinside channeling 1.5Ghz to create 3Ghz?

-Or-

Depending on how much resource is needed the lesser program take it small portion of one core like 1Ghz leaving it 500Mhz so the other core has 1.5Ghz + 500Mhz = 2Ghz for the greater Program?

SOrry to ask stupid question >_< I'm just currious how it works even though I don;t think many of our application are compatible yet since the market is starting to jump on it =P

Even with Dual core 3Ghz will you notice any diffrence from a Single core 3Ghz?

Hey

The dual core processors run both cores at the speed specified (3Ghz in this case). However, this does not mean it's at 6Ghz nor does it mean that it's twice as fast. In the end, the actual speed of it differs when it comes to multitasking. That's what teh dual core was designed for.

JAN :D

and under intesne gaming
most games a single thread applications so dual core will not see a huge improvement.

doesn't really work like that. In LAYMENS terms this number (3ghz) is the clock speed meaning how many clock cycles a cpu can do in a unit of time. Now within each cycle a cpu can perform a number of operations, for simplicity sake lets say it can do only one operation in a cycle. Obviously the faster the clock speed (the faster the cycles) the more operations a cpu can do per unit time when compared to lower clocked cpu. So two tasks will have to share a cpu they will each queue there required operations. But the cpu will only being one (in this case) at once.
apj shudders and waits for praetor/cromewell to eat him alive for such simplifaction

like the 2nd post says, its just two 3ghz cpus, and its not 2x as fast but its almost like u can to 2x as much stuff at the same time which is very nice, if u can afford the 4400 then get it
