hey i duno what i should do should i get a dual core pros or a singel core with a better gpu like nivida 7800 or 6800 ultra thanks

games tend to take advantage of the higher clock single core since most games are single threaded. however, if im not mistaken, multithreaded games maybe coming out. some video/photo editing programs execute multiple threads at once and would benefit from the dual core. what is your budget?

well for multitasking then ur gonna want the dual core, and for the video editing. But when it comes to gaming ur gonna want a single core until the long awaited dual core games come out. The problem is that there isnt really an exact date for when the first dual core game comes out, and who knows if u will be interested in it, and nobody knows when all games are gonna run better on a dual core. SO basically u shuld buy the processor based on wat u do more. But its risky cause a few weeks after u order ur single core processor the first dual core game could come out and then if u got a dual core processor and the dual core game comes out in like a year. Do wat u think is best for u.

From a purely technical point you are correct however there's not a world of reason not to get an [AMD] dualcore box for gaming since the primary advantage of the K8 is still present in the K9 via the ondie memory controller ... sure there's more overhead due to the second core but it'll handle itself well with gaming :)

Games dont have cores. Multithreaded games already exist.

just a question is battlefield 2 multithreaded

Battlefield 2 is technically singlethreaded but inefficiently coded enough, you might be convinced otherwise :P

what does ineffciently coded enough mean

Well let me help you out since you dont know what common words mean.

inefficiently-
Lacking the ability or skill to perform effectively; incompetent: an inefficient worker.

Coded- writing the program

lets combine the two the program was written lacking the ability or skill to perform effectively.

Tell me if any of the other words confuse you.

Dont thank yet ... u didnt get an answer
well lets work on that ;)

When you say some video editing i take it that means light, and when you put gaiming first in you list i take it that is your prority, in which case for the time being a single core and better gpu will serve you better than visa versa.

There may come a day when the dual core will be a must over a single core. But it is not this day - :)

Ok lets get perspective here,
a) are we talking about hardcore gaming
b) are we talking hardcore vidoe editing.
if (a = true and b = true) OR (a = false and b= false) then
It doesnt matter which you get, get the cheapest

if a = true and b = false then get AMD
if a = false and b = true then get intel

are we going in circles? I thought you options were dual core or better gpu?
From those option picking up a single core and better gpu (which you serve you better in gaming)
To be honest your probably going to get more pi55ed of if your gaming is hampered than if you video editing is hampered. (i say hampered relatively)

In that case get single amd64, something like the 3800.
What is you buget for both cpu and gpu?
