Dual Core really that bad?

Hmm I don't know. I've heard other things like that too but then again I've seen games like BF2 (which is notorious for crashing if you sneeze) run just fine on dual core systems.

I should add that I mostly play strategy games:
Age of Anything, Total War(s), etc.

Would these strategy games crash because they weren't made for the Dual Core?

I dont see why they would. When you run a game that doesnt support dual core it will use only one core. I believe if this was a real problem there would be a lot of talk about it.

There is no reason that anything should crash on a dual-core processor that works on a single core processor. Doom is runnning fine for me on my dual-core.

The worst that will happen is the game mechanics flip out and you run at super speed. Just go into your Windows Task Manager and turn off one of your cores.

I have a dual core and though I do not have problems with BF2 I do have problems with other games.

These games include: COD2, Oblivion, NFSMW, and FEAR

The "problems" that I have is really just one...it crashes my computer whenever I turn on these games.

There are a few games where it conflics, and makes the games crash and/or run slower. But all you have to do is tell the game to only run on 1 CPU.

I have already done this and it still crashes... to tell you the truth my computer just crashed...after setting the affinity to 1 CPU

Holy smokes! I better build a Single Core.
I have a lot of games (mostly strategy), but
I don't want any to be unplayable.

Dual core is actually better for games, especially the new games and any upcoming titles. There are only rare cases where that happens with dual cores.

Trust me eventually the dual core will pay off. They will "WILL" come out with patches that support dual core. Becaue if they didn't then there games would not be able to be played in the furture (which would be stupid). Expecialy since dual core is going to be the standard in the near future.

So get the dual core.

Patches should or will be coming out. So dont worry about it.

Well....I know that.....it is just extremely frustrating right now:)

I just hope it becomes an advantage soon

XFs.....get the dual core it will be worth it.

neslo1211, which model of processor do you have--the 830 or 930? If you have the 830, download Speedfan and see what your temperatures are. Your computer might be crashing because of overheating, or who knows, maybe your power supply isn't supplying enough power (probably not, but it doesn't hurt to check). What wattage do you have on the truepower?

haha ive never crashed in my life (that is, besides due to a bad overclock)... i play doom 3 and quake 4 all the time.
don't think i've ever crashed while at 2.6ghz or 2.4ghz, my most common o/cs :)
if dual core didn't work with the games, they would have online updates... and if dual core made applications crash they wouldn't sell them. lol

may be its not the problem of cpu, may be yourr whole computer overall is not working togather properly?

like "competable" meams 50% or more sucess of working togather, at least thats what i heard in a computer parts world...

so, if thats true, may be because your cpu, mobo, ram, gpu are not working togather properly?

you built the computer your self right?

yes i built the pc myself but I spent a lot of time making sure the parts were compatible...so I think they are :)
