Dual Core vs. HT

I'm thinkin on using 100$ to go from a P4 HT 2.93ghz (533MHZ BUS) to a P4 HT 3.4ghz (800MHZ BUS) or should I get a Dual Core 1.6ghz (1000mhz BUS) which one would be better for gaming specifically the game called Crysis?

Okay what's you motherboard? I would get away from the Pentium 4's...

If your motherboard supports it, the new Core(Allendale) Pentium Dual cores are very nice...
 
i dont think either would run crysis very well. im afraid my 2.8ghz core2duo and x1950 pro will struggle.
 
ieve it or not youll run crysis fine with that setup bcause you have GDDR3 512MB GPU which is recommended and you have 2gigs of ram which overdid it and you have a core2duo which is great!the only thing wrong is that you dont have Direct X 10 on that GPU :(
 
I didnt ask which 1 sucks more I asked which one will run crysis BETTER so please tell me which one you would recommend and why?..Oh ya what is the 1.6 dual core equvalent to in GHZ?
 
1.6 i think its the new pentium dual core, its actually a core2duo with 1mb cache? go with that one rather than the p4.


and my gpu is only 256mb, but system reqs have to be pretty broad, they depend on resolution/aa-af/settings . my card is still good, but they played it safe, because its not likely you will have a 512mb gddr3 memory on a poor card.

What dual core processor is it? You can't just compare the clock speed of processors anymore. If the dual core one is a core2duo, it will run the game much better than both of the P4 HT's.

ok lets make it cleare:D new pentium dual core, its actually a CORE DUO(for desktop pc) with 1mb cashe and has ONE physical core(more advanced celeron D for next generation (like core solo from celeron M:) to compare with core duo for mobile pc)
because core 2 duo has 1mb cash for its own(core 2 duo(E2160) with 1mb cash:cool:)
 
I just did a custom-build with a e2160 (1.8ghz) and I would highly recommend that (try to spend the extra $10 for the e2160 as opposed to the 2140 200 mhz faster.) I was surprised, these aren't "core 2 duo" chips, they are based on the same infrastructure with the level 2 cache restrcited to 1mb (512K and 512K.) I was a little hesitant at first going for those chips as opposed to the p4 w/ht which what i currently run on my personal machine. But let me tell you, The dual-core pentium takes the cake hands down. It boots up very quickly, and runs tasks very quickly and efficiently. Not to mention, the restricted l2 cache can be very easily compensated by these chips ability to overclock, they are overclocking wonders, you could get it up to 2.4+ ghz without a problem on the stock cooler (i've seen the e2160 clocked over 3ghz)

its a single pool of cache, the quad cores use two pools of 4mb cache tho..

and pentium dual cores are core2duos. they are. just less cache. if you dont want games they are such a good deal.

1mb would start to kill gaming performance and 4mb is just extra for future apps. i got the e4xxx series with 2mb.
 
pentium dual core is Conroe for poor ones:(
they have cut core2duo that much so there is almost nothing in pentium dual core from core2duo( they even called it different
the same celeron is pentium with just less cache....

and what about 1mb and gaming performance?
 
If you want to upgrade I would go with the 3.4GHz Pentium 4 HT. It's not a big difference from what you have though.

I say this because 915/925 based motherboard do not support dual core processors. It may not even support 65nm P4s (Pentium 4 model # 6x1), I can't seem to find the actual name for MS-7091 (ie 915P Neo2, 915P Combo, etc)
