Dual Core vs. Quad Core??

I currently have a 2.1 GHz dual core AMD processor. When looking at a quad core, for around triple the price, I see that they are running around 2.3 GHz. What other spec comes into play in determining a faster CPU? Because I dont see .2 GHz as enough of a reason to spend that kind of money.

The Phenoms right now are not worth upgrading to if you already have a dual core. Wait till the B3 stepping hits the stores. There releasing a X4 9850 black with unlocked multiplier and B3 stepping. Should be alot better than whats on the market with the B2 stepping.

I agree with the above poster. The B2 stepping has been plagued with bugs. Think real hard before buying a black edition though. You pay quite a bit more for the unlocked multiplier. The current black editions of the X2 have very little overclocking potential, making the unlocked multiplier somewhat moot. The new stepping may change this.

B2/b3 refers to an internal revision system, of sorts. A chip will start on say a B0 state. As little changes are made to the chip, over time, the numeral value changes, B1-B2 etc. If a larger change is made the letter will change, C0-D0. These changes can be both helpful or negative to the values of the certain chip, OCing, heat, etc

I agree with the rest, and add if you are considering buying a faster dual-core, instead of overclocking your current, you may not be of the sort to realize a BE's potential. I'd personal keep your current unless you readily need to upgrade, for performance reasons.
