Dual core vs quad core.

I suppose, but you even said yourself that duals are clocked at a higher speed. I rarely multitask.
Clockspeed means very little when comparing different architectures - a 3GHz Athlon is about as fast as ~2.5GHz Phenom. The 9500 (and 9550), however, are low-end (and low-clocked) models, and the pretty huge clockspeed advantage of a 6000+ makes it a winner in single-threaded apps.

The 6000+ ain't a bad CPU, but if you really don't want to spend the extra cash, I would certainly recommend a Phenom X3. At least here in Australia lowest-end Phenoms cost less than highest-end Athlons (6000+). Regardless, as long as you don't play any massively demanding game, you really can't go wrong with any of those.

think about this though. if the program is single threaded, the small difference that does exist between one 6000 core and one 9550 core wont matter, because odds are both cores will run the program just fine, be it a game, a web browser, whatever. but when a program comes along that is quad threaded, your really going to wish you had all that extra power under the hood.

I might get the 9650+ x4 or the 9750+ x4 95W version. The 9650+ x4 is 150 bucks, 50 bucks more than the 6000+ x2. If I do get it I really hope it is 50 dollars faster.

Dont get a 00 series Phenom. If you want a Phenom atleast get a 50 series. The 00 Series have the L3 TLB bug. Thats why they are so cheap, AMD trying to dump inventory. But like said above, if your looking at price get something like a X3 8750BE. I,m running a 8750BE at 3.2ghz. with just 1.35 voltage. The lowerend X4 9550/9650 dont overclock worth a crap

I have never overclocked a cpu, guess I am old fashioned. It use to be really dangerous but now it seems like everyone does it.
