Dual Core????

Hey!

Simple, Is dual core worth getting? Iv got an ok processor but I think my mobo will also take a dual core processor, but would it make any difference in gaming? or is dual core ONLY better for stuff like video editing and multitasking.

Also, what difference does the processor make in games?, what would happen if I stuck a really cheap one in and tried to play a game on high settings?

Cheers,

The CPU is the most important part of the computer, aside from the mobo, so trying to run a game on for example a celeron would severly cripple your gaming experience. 4gigs of ram and 2 7900's SLI'ed would still run pretty slow with a bad CPU.

That's false. Single core CPU's still dominate in the gaming department. Dual Cores have not been optimized by game makers yet, and don't perform as well.

I still think they are worth getting, good multitasking and gaming.

There are actually quite a few multithreaded games out now, but the majority are still single-threaded. If I were buying a new CPU, though, i'd get a Dual Core one since future games will be multithreaded.

For a new CPU, yes, but I wouldn't upgrade your current CPU unless you're also upgrading the rest of your system.

But the majority of them are not, only a few. I completely agree though, dual core is worth getting right now to be future proof. I was just saying that dual core does not perform as well yet.

The Video Card is more important than the CPU for games. But a horrible CPU will cripple your graphics card

both are equally important until the point where the other is the bottleneck

It would depend on which dual core processors you are comparing to which single core processor. The AMD 64X4800 will eat most single core processors; and the FX60 is a kick butt dual core processor. Given the choice, I would buy dual core as most have said.

I am in no way saying I would buy a single core over a dual. I would way rather have a dual. I was just disagreeing with the guys statement about dual cores being better then single core in gaming, because they aren't yet.

if you want to sell your single let me know. as long as it's 939, and it's got to be if you can use Duals so hit me up:)
