dual monitor system

I have seen people with 2 monitors hooked up to their rig using it as double the desktop space. Granted this person was using linux so im not sure if it works the same with windows but how did he do it? With a dual monitor system do games show up on both screens (like stretched) or could I put a media player on the other monitor and be playing and watching a movie? WHat would my rig need to do this (ie special video card, special settings, etc)?

Thanks in advance :D

basically a new video card with a vga and and dvi port (usually a vga adapter for the dvi port will come with it) from there u can make the settings in your graphic card.

cool. With a dual monitor system do games show up on both screens (like stretched) or could I put a media player on the other monitor and be playing and watching a movie?

umm.. i suppose it would be able to stretch and most likely capable or showing the game on one screen and WMP on the other.

Yes and No.... certain games will run full screen on 2,3 even 4 monitors with a bit of work. Quake3 is one Unreal Tournament is another. You can also run dual monitors with more then one video card and people have been known to run 3-4 monitors... I myself have only ran 2 but at the moment I've not enough desk space for my second monitor.

You cannot play a game and do somthing on the other monitor but you can watch a movie on one and somthing like browse the internet on the other.

ummm :-), basicly your right :-).. Although again not with most games but in order to do that you need to run a game in window mode and then stretch it which i've seen done also but both monitors need to be configured identicle as far as refresh rates and resolution goes. Again you'll be lucky to find a game that you like that actualy does this :-) but it's possible with some.

But both monitors need to be configured identicle as far as refresh rates and resolution goes.

Yes, and as far as doing these settings (for example) you right click nvidia icon in your toolbar and primary and secondary settings appear just configure both to be identical as far as resolution and refresh rates go.

maybe you are able to play a game on one and play a game on the other with one of thoe 512mb vid cards lol.

check this out (prolly not what your looking for but its around there.)

Ya that's some crazy she-yat LOL.. dont even see the point in that really but i'm sure it's got it's application.

I could be wrong, I did not want to commit myself to read much about it but arent they doing basicly what can be done with one pc and 2 monitors but using that software you need two computers to accomplish the same?.
