Dual Monitors(Dual View)

Ok, so I took my old CRT out of storage and decided to hook it up and try out "Dual Monitors"

One is a LCD 24'', and the other is a 17'' CRT. LCD is DVI, and CRT is VGA.

Few things, I notice my CRT now is super-blurry(Since I unplugged it and started using the LCD, I have not touched it), unless on the lowest of resolutions, but this COULD just be due to me using my 24'' for the last two months or so. I guess I can deal with the blurr, if it's just my eyesight. (Color seems to be better on my CRT, sadly)

That's not my real issue here, but I wanted to throw it in just in case.

Mmkay, the list of options(Using a NVIDIA CARD, 8800 GT)Dual View, Clone, and such like that...I do not want to extend my desktop, I'd actually like to just have a clone of my desktop on the other monitor(But NOT mimic my actions) So that I could play a game AND View my Desktop at the same time(Game on my LCD, Desktop on my CRT, but while in game)

I cannot figure out how to do this, or if it's even possible, thanks.

As far as I know, it's not possible.

HOWEVER: If you do the extension mode and set your game to the resolution of the LCD, then you will still see your desktop and whatever else is in that extended area. (Performance monitor, e-mail, etc.)

But still, go for the Desktop Extension. It really helps when transferring files and folders and whatnot.

I'm using a 22" set to 1280x768 and a 17" CRT at 1024x768 and it looks just great.

Eh, the extended mode doesn't show my desktop on the other side(At least only half of it, so it's annoying), and I really hate the way it looks when it uses them to reach higher resolutions. I guess it's just useless, I thought it'd be great to have a second monitor, just showing my desktop lol, so I could browse on one, while playing a game, instead of minimizing.

They should make it possible, lol. My CRT seems so small now, it really looks like it shrunk...

to do dual screen you need a good video card.

and i would say get a new LCD if you are going to do dual screen.

A video card that you would want or need is a VGA and DVI output and then a DVI to DVI into your LCD.

I am using DVI for one, and I have a good video card.(8800 GT should suffice) and VGA for the CRT, as I stated.

If anything, I'd get another CRT, after buying and using this LCD for two months, I can honestly say I'd rather pay twice as much for a CRT of the same size...LCD color quality, among how difficult it can be to clean and dirty it, not to mention without V-SYNC, games will tear so much it's insane. V-Sync drastically reduces FPS, even IF you have a second Frame Buffer...so it's just a pain. LCD's may be nice to browse web pages with, but playing games, and watching movies, they are not meant for such.

a lot of people have been happy with their LCDs and i don't think anyone has gone back.

But it would be under the driver settings for the dual screen setup.

YEah, I know, I've already tried them all, I didn't like any of them.

How can people prefer a LCD? Color looks washed out, regardless of how well it's calibrated, tearing is insane without V-Sync, sure, it's light and easy to move, but it's video and 3D rendering quality is just...well, it made a DVD video look bad...and on my CRT, it looks fine.

It is also do with the settings... the way you want it....

Well, I've managed to put my Desktop on the secondary monitor, and have my 3D stuffer rendered on my first monitor, like I wanted, but is there anyway to stop games from minimizing on my first when I click on the second?

That is the things will full screen games - you can't have them going in full screen... with dual screen going... the is one disadvantages......

Windowed mode made it go from 60FPS to 13FPS. So..yeah, not working. I'm fine with this then, my old CRT still saves some purpose. I'll just deal with it.

I have a LCD for gaming and two CRTs on the side. When I load up a game, I usually just close the crts, that works fine for me.

I could also use Ultramon to automatically disable my secondary monitors. But the Crts are on a seperate graphics card, so it makes no real difference.
