dual monitors/ tv on computer?

ok, so i wanted ti buy a tv in my room and stuff but my dad is giving me a hard time about it cause i got my computer a few months ago, he doesnt see why i want a tv (hes a retard)

anyway, he was talking about tv tuner cards or something like that? so that you can run a tv cable into the card/computer and watch tv on it. im looking on newegg and they have so many different cards on there for different things i have no idea what is what.

the other thing is i wanted a tv so i could game ect, and watch tv, so if i got on eof these cards i wanted to hook up another monitor (an old crt monitor). im am on a x850xt right now, and looking at the back i think it only has digital input, not analog also.

what im wondering is...

1. do they make these tv cards with monitor pluggin slots so i could hook up the CRT monitor to it then watch tv on one monitor and game on the other at the same time..?

2. are they expensive?

3. do they make these cards with tv jacks in them so you could...say...hook up a ps2 or xbox ect to them?

4. would you guys recomend this, or just getting a 200-400 dollar tv and put it on my wall or something?

5. if all the thinsg about the cards are right and i should get one...which are good ones to get and which are the right ones? (too many diff things under that section on newegg for me to figure it out.

There are many different types of tuners for computers. You might just be interested in one of these that's basically a tuner that plugs directly into your monitor.

Others actually go inside your computer so you can capture video and what not.

There are also some USB tuners, but I wouldn't suggest getting one.

The first would probably give the best quality and performace, but as I said, you can't actually capture to your computer as I mentioned. But also, you also don't have to have your computer on or anything to use it.
 
ya, those were the cards i was looking at and was getting confused cause iwas hoping they would have something like a monitor plussin in them.

with the top one, im assuming i would just have my monitor plugged into the computer, then have that set up, andi would be able to turn it on/off and flip through all normal channels like i would with a normal tv?

assuming im rigth about^^ i assume that i could find a way to hook up my CRT monitor or some other monitor, then hook up the box thing to it, and be able to flip through that while doing other stuff on my computer? or just have it off and use it?

finally, what would you suggest? i mean the recording tv sounds nice but im really only interested in watching it, and if i needed it, i could always findother ways of obtaining it...so ya, whats your opinion on which i should get?
 
For the first one, there's a cable that goes from your computer to the tuner box, then from that to your CRT. From there it's suppose to act like a normal TV. You can have your computer on or off. I hear most of those have a Picture-in-picture option, so you could have the TV running in the corner.

From what you want to do, I'd get one of those tuner boxes. Unless you get a pretty nice capture card, the quality is very poor. Plus there's more to go wrong with a capture card(drivers, video overlay, etc etc) Even if you took a hammer to your PC, that tuner box thing would still work :rolleyes: Also, many of the better capture cards have some buffer lag. I know my WinTV has wonderful video, but what shows up on the screen is about 5 seconds behind what's actually happening. Try playing a console like that :rolleyes:
 
ok, i think im going to get one of those tuner boxes, and depending how well it works on my crt monitor, possibly buy a new*ish* monitor unless that adds up to more than a tv.

with that tuner box, can you play consoles on it?
