Dual Monitors

I recently upgraded my monitor and considered plugging in the old one for dual monitor action. My card has blue and white outlets, I'm currently using the blue one for my monitor. The white one is for a DVI cable I read. Will it be as simple as buying a DVI cable and plugging it in, or do I have do buy some type of splitter?

If your monitor has a DVI connection on it and your graphics card has a DVI connection on it, you're good to go.

In that case, you'd need a VGA to DVI Converter, which looks like this;

My card has two DVI slots on it, yet both my monitors are VGA and so are my cables, so I have the converters in the card and then the VGA Cables going into the VGA slots on my monitors.

Everything hooks up correctly but I don't see the other monitor in the Settings tab in the Display Properties window. When I plugged everything in and turned on the comp, both monitors were blank/black, nothing came up. I unplugged the second monitor and the primary one had visuals again after I restarted. I then plugged everything back into the second monitor and checked device manager, where it showed 2 plug and play monitors. Why isn't it appearing under display property settings?

There won't be anything on the monitor until you tell the computer there's two connected and you want to extend your desktop onto the second monitor.

Right Click Desktop > Personalize > Display Settings > Click on the picture of the second monitor > Extend the desktop onto this monitor.

That's in Vista, I'm not too sure how to do it on XP.

That's the problem, I'm in display settings where the second monitor should be showing up, but it only shows one. Yet it recognizes the second monitor in device manager..

NVidia Control Panel > Set up multiple displayes and it should show both monitors and you can click on Dual view(Streches Desktop to both monitors or Clone view(Same Desktop on both screens) This only works if you have a Nvidia Graphics card and i'm not sure if XP has Nvidia Control Panel

I actually went there and did that, but it didn't work. I set it to horizontal stretch and restarted my comp, and both monitors stayed black screen and nothing showed up. So lame, I wanna get this to work :(
