Dual OS problem

HEllis all,
I'am currently running Windows 10 home on a SSD and iam attempting to install a second OS (windows 8.1 pro) on the same SSD via bootable thumb drive, I have formated the thumb drive to NTFS and loaded the windows 8.1 install files, i have also shrunk the C drive partition to make room for the second OS and changed the boot priority in the bios so the thumbdrive is the first boot device.
Problem: when I restart the computer to boot to the usb, the monitor goeS and stays black with no progress bar or window, I have waited at the black screen for a few minutes and still nothing happens, Iam able to turn off the tower and boot it back to my original OS (windows 10). Any tips, advice, help would be awesome. Thank yall

I created the bootable through cmd prompt, I just reformating using rufus. And I wasn't aware that having win 8 and win 10 would break the boot loader. Where can I get easybcd? Can this be done after the fact?

I gave you the link for easybcd. Yes, you can do it after the fact. The oldest OS should always be installed first and then the newest OS. If doing it this way, then you won't need to fix the bootloader.

Thank you for all the help. I will attempt to resolve this, and log back on with results. Again thank you
