hi to all! please help me,

I have 2 hardisk. I'm trying to reformat the 40gb hardisk, when I reformat it, I didn't notice that the partition change and it install in the other hardisk, 18gb. Now, both hardisk has OS, how can i remove the other OS in 18gb? I format it, the files had been removed but when I booth it, it appears black and I need to choose between the two, Windows Professional and Windows Professional. When I chose the second Windows Professional it says
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hal.dll could not find.

What will I do? Can anyone help me with this. It would be a big help.. Thanks!:)

If you've removed the 2nd windows install completely, you just need to edit your boot.ini file (usually c:\boot.ini, it's hidden and a system file so you might not be able to see it without adjusting your view settings) and remove the entry for the removed OS. I would back it up before you save any changes but even if you don't it's possible to recover and make your computer boot again if you make a mistake.

Each OS entry line will look something like this:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

If you don't know which one was removed, change the part in quotes to something else. ie. change "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" to "Microsoft Windows XP Professional - check line"

You can't hurt anything by changing just that part, it's just the name that shows up in the OS select menu that you are getting.
