Dual processor vs. single processor servers.

I'm about to start a new build and I want to build a light traffic server. Im just curious how you guys feel about a single processor server. Is it worth the extra money to do a dual processor setup? I will be doing some remote access work, some FTP stuff and thats about it. I wont be hosting games or anything hardcore. Thanks!

No need for dual core if that's all you're doing with it. Contrary to popular belief, single core *is* better in certain setups.

I was actually wondering about dual processors not cores. I was thinking of doing dual xeon's or a single double core. My buddy is runnning a dual core dual xeon setup and it is pretty freaking fast. I do some gaming personally but nothing too crazy so I want a fast machine but I dont want to spend more than what is really necessary..

Oh - heh:) I skimmed and thought I had it. Let that be a lesson to me. Single CPU, dual core, then for you in this case.

well if its only llike 50 bucks more i would go with dual core because who says down the line u might want to do somthing else and o wait!! u dont have enough power because u were a cheap skate and didnt go w/ dual core but thats my opinion. i always go w/ the more power ful one because it will last longer because its more current and able to handle more stuff
