Hey Everyone,

My boss asked me to find some new RAM for our blade server. Right now we have 80gb installed as 10x8gb Dual Rank DDR3 1333 CAS 9 modules. He says that we want at least double the current configuration.

This is our server HP ProLiant BL460c g7

so far I wanted to buy 4x32gb quad rank modules and fil out the rest of the system with the 8gb modules that I already have to get 192gb. Problem is, each module is $1300 each. So that got shot down...

anyway, I am deciding on either 8 quad rank 16gb or 8 dual rank 16gb modules. So can I can't find any information on what would be better or what I need to look for when considering the placement of the different ranks in the server.

Any help is appreciated. I am really stumped on this one.

I am confused. You mean dual and quad channel, not rank, right? Or am I missing something?

No... A quick google search and I've come to find out he's using correct terms... A simple explanation is that each time quad rank progresses it takes a while before the dual rank version comes out..

Ex. Dual and Quad rank 16gb modules are available. Right now only Quad rank 32gb is available. When 32gb in Dual rank comes out, quad rank 64gb modules will be out..
