dual usb lead.....how to use/connect?

i have recently purchased an external hdd enclosure for 2.5 inch drive and came with a usb lead with two usb connectors one end and the other end that connects to the hard drive... if i plug it into just one usb on pc it works fine, but could i connect the other usb socket to my second tower and use the drive as a (i suppose) buffer for transferring files? my only wonder is that the two usb sockets each produce 5v and would it fry the drive?

the second usb port is to supply additional power if needed. If yours works with one, that just simplifies things, but typically one plug is intended for data transfer while the other is just additional power. So it it doubtful that you could connect the drive to multiple computers at once.

Yeah...it should have some mark on it stating which is Data+Power and which is just power. Most computers work fine with just the data one. My newest external drive actually only has one connection and it's worked just fine on all my computers thus far.

thanks guys

i have usb 2.0 so i will use it as intended. , i did try plugging it into both and it only registered on one. so i will use it just the same as a flash drive, be it 12 gb so it will be very handy for transferring programs. THANK YOU FOR ANSEWRING ALL OF YOU :) :P :D
