dumb newbie question

If i view streamed video's from the internet, i.e. youtube. These videos are not downloaded to my computer are they? They are temporarily there then they are removed when i close my browser correct?

The reason i am asking is because recently my McAffe firewall popped up and said that a trojan program had been found on my computer. I have not downladed any files other than mozilla firefox, and trillian from cnet.com.

I do stream a lot of videos but i don't think that is the reason.

Thanks, Zach

If you are being warned by McAfee of a trojan being found it is due to that being placed on your drive by one of the sites you visited. It doesn't matter if you did or din't download files since the web site copied right to your drive. It's a malware common at many sites depending on the type of videos. The first thing you will want to do is look over what McAfee has pointed out as the trojan or run other virus and spyware removers to see it gone.

yes. i have deleted it through mcafee. I ran a virus scan and it came up empty so i should be alright. I also have adaware and that came up fine as well.

Thanks for the advice,

Zach

To be on the protective side you may want to try out a few other programs as well. McAfee generally doesn't offer the best protection. In fact it's one of those on the low end of the totem pole. AVG, Avast, Antivir, and a few others are far better rated. AVG 7.5 is a free antivirus program and the latest release that catches a good number of malwares even if it can't quaranteen or remove them. You can grab the free version at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

Another one that works to catch what AdAware SE Personal misses is also available at Grisoft. You can download Ewido at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/ewido-anti-spyware-free/lng/us/tpl/v5

For a good look over of several others download.com and Majorgeeks.com have a large number of freewares as well as sharewares to try out.
